Because I Said So…
So many people fail to recognize the amazing gift of free will that God gave us. I have been asked numerous times, “How can a loving God send people to hell?”
People’s response is anything from shock to anger when I tell them he doesn’t. Do you know that God has only sent one person to hell? That was Jesus. Outside of Jesus, every person who has ever been sentenced to hell sent themselves there. It was their choice.
Understanding that God didn’t create human beings as robots. We have the choice to follow and serve him. That is why He is merciful. God gave us a choice, so no human can ever say he made me obey.
I heard the story of a young man once who was sent to the corner like many of us has been. His momma told him that since he misbehaved he had to sit in the corner for one hour. He looked at her with those precious eyes of a four-year-old and said, “Momma, I’m sitting down here, but inside I am standing up.” How many of us do that with God? We know what He tells us, but we ignore it or live in open rebellion?
We have a choice, we have a free moral will.
I love this verse that talks to us about our choices:
I have inclined my heart to perform Your statutes Forever, even to the end. Psalms 119:112 NASB
Read it in the Message version:
I concentrate on doing exactly what you say— I always have and always will. Psalms 119:112 The Message
None of us are perfect. None of us, but make sure that you concentrate on doing exactly what God’s Word says. Be a Word person. Pay attention to the Word. Love the Word friends.
