If you want to be used by God to minister to people, then you should be praying in tongues and edifying yourself, so when the opportunity comes, you can minister.  Tongues doesn’t just minister to you.  Look at Mark 16,

“And He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.  He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.  These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues; they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.’” Mark 16:15-18 NASB

This is important because a lot of churches will preach the first part of the great commission, but they don’t get into the second part.  It says these signs will follow those who believe; it doesn’t say they will only follow a specific denomination.  Some churches down south will dance and play with snakes, that is stupid.  That is tempting the devil.  Remember when Paul, after the shipwreck, went to put wood on the fire, and the snake came out and bit him?  Nothing happened.  That is what this scripture is saying, you can be in accidents where others would die, but you live.  If this was just for the apostles, then why would Jesus say, ‘Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel’?  And why would He go on and tell us to make sure the signs follow you all over the world?  When it talks about laying hands on the sick, it says they, the believers.  It does not say only pastors or leaders in the church can do it for someone to recover.  If you are going to live a Spirit-led life, you have to be filled with the Holy Ghost.

“It happened that while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed through the upper country and came to Ephesus and found some disciples.  He said to them, ‘Did you received the Holy Spirit when you believed?’ And they said to him, ‘No, we have not even heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.’  And he said, ‘Into what then were you baptized?’  And they said, ‘Into John’s baptism.’  Paul said, ‘John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in Him who was coming after him, that is, in Jesus.’  When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.  And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking with tongues and prophesying.  There were in all about twelve men.  And he entered the synagogue and continued speaking out boldly for three months, reasoning and persuading them about the kingdom of God.” Acts 19:1-8 NASB

“God was performing extraordinary miracles by the hands of Paul, so that handkerchiefs or aprons were even carried from his body to the sick, and the disease left them and the evil spirits went out.  But also some of the Jewish exorcists, who went from place to place, attempted to name over those who had the evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, ‘I adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preaches.’ Seven sons of one Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this.  And the evil spirit answered and said to them, ‘I recognize Jesus, and I know about Paul, but who are you?’  And the man, in whom was the evil spirit, leaped on them and subdued all of them and overpowered them, so that they fled out of the house naked and wounded.  This became known to all, both Jews and Greeks, who lived in Ephesus; and fear fell upon them all and the name of the lord Jesus was being magnified.  Many also of those who had believed kept coming, confessing and disclosing their practices.” Acts 19:11-18 NASB

They were trying to cast out devils in the name of Paul and the name of Jesus that Paul preaches.  You cannot cast out devils and do miracles based on what your parents did or by what your pastor did.  You have to have a personal relationship. It doesn’t work to say, well, I saw the pastor do it, so in the name of Jesus devil, you have to come out because my pastor said.  No, that won’t work, that demon will look at you and laugh.  The Holy Ghost moves.

A lot of people think that if they get filled with the Holy Ghost, a demon comes in them and moves their mouth to talk.  That is not how it works.  The Holy Spirit is a gentleman, and He will never make you do something.  That is why it is an act of faith to make the noise and syllables when you speak in tongues.  When I first prayed in tongues, I sounded like a fool.  All I could say was, ‘Baa.’  One time a family member told me one time that I sounded like a sheep.  But when a baby is born, and his first words are dada, we don’t make fun of them and say they are stupid.  As I grew and kept praying in tongues, my vocabulary grew.  You have to make the words; you have to step out in faith.

The Bible says there are heaven and hell.  Both are real, both exist.  As real as New York City and Los Angeles are, that is how real heaven and hell are.  I want you to ask yourself this question, if you were to die right now, would you go to heaven or hell?  If your answer is, I’m not sure, then you are going to hell.  Fix that right now.  Simply say this prayer with me:

Jesus, I ask you to come into my life.  I acknowledge that you came to earth and died for my sins and rose again.  I accept you in my life and I ask you to lead me from now on.

If you prayed that prayer, email me right now Hondo@HondoCarpenter.com right now.  I want to send you a Bible and some materials and help you get into a local church.
